Biography
Joseph Rene was born as Joseph Rene Perez Herrera on June 9th, 1988, in San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Christina Cantu and Marcos Cantu, a transmission expert. He is the oldest of five, followed by: Amanda Herrera, Blanca Teresa Herrera, Jimmy Cantu, and Sofia Cantu. Besides his immediate family, his grandmother Teresa Herrera and great aunt Blanca Resendez have had a strong influential significance throughout his life. At Harlandale High School, Joseph Rene engaged in various sports, as well as being very dedicated to his studies. It was during his high school years that he experienced his first taste of acting through a student film project, as well as taking a drama course. Joseph Rene went on to graduate from the University of Texas at San Antonio degreed in Kinesiology with a focus in Exercise Science. He also has a Minor in Business Administration. His love for acting was revealed to him during his college years after stumbling upon a local acting class and receiving an offer for representation on the spot. Being the class-clown throughout his youth, it was only natural that Joseph Rene sought out to be a comedic actor; however, that soon changed once given his first dramatic scene in an acting class. His inability to connect to his emotions and lack of understanding of the process drove him to aspire to a greater level. That moment proved to be a pivotal point in his career in which it began his discovery of truth in his work and ultimately to a better understanding of his self. Joseph Rene's early works began with the television show Memphis Beat (2010) across from Jason Lee, and a slew of short films including: Blackbook Curse (2011), Thank You for This (2011), Trial of Duality (2012), and Not Shown for Clarity (2013). The suspenseful suicide scene in Trial of Duality (2012) was his first work that really tested his emotional range. Between Hell and a Heartbeat (2011) and Davis Farm (2014) were his first features as a lead actor. He really began to flex his acting prowess with various characters, ranging from the funny dimwitted Jerry in The Reflex Tester (2013) to the innocent Jamie in the dark emotional drama Bound (2014), and the afflicted Sam Parsons in the horror-thriller The Demon Inside (2017). Joseph Rene's recent supporting roles have been electric working alongside Danielle Campbell in the Race to Win (2016), as the heinous human trafficker Ben in Run (2016), and abductor Henry in Send Your Angels (2017). A fitness enthusiast, Joseph Rene is currently a Fitness Specialist certified as an ACSM Exercise Physiologist. He aspires to versatility and aims at compelling audiences with his dynamic acting ability.
