Biography
As well as writing songs, many in the scrumpy and western genre, Henry Buckton is a best selling social historian, although he has also written plays, film, and stories for children. He studied at the Somerset College of Arts, and his literary career began in 1985 with the broadcast of his first story on BBC Radio Bristol. Since then he has written several more children’s stories for radio broadcast. Between 2000 and 2003, he compiled, edited and published four books of celebrity childhood memories under contract to the BBC Children In Need Appeal, in order to raise money and awareness for disadvantaged children. Henry’s social histories include ‘Yesterday’s Country Village,’ which examines every aspect of rural life as it used to be. This book reached the No 1 spot in the WH Smith bestsellers list in their British and Irish History section. And ‘The Lost Villages,’ which visits a number of communities around Britain that were abandoned during the 20th century for various reasons. Henry’s general history books include ‘Voices from the Battle of Britain’ published in 2010 to mark the 70th anniversary of that famous conflict, and 'Retreat' published in 2017 to coincide with the epic movie about the Dunkirk evacuation that year starring Tom Hardy and Harry Styles.
